I didn't just like this book. I loved "Rekindled" by Tamera Alexander. What a cool story! God's been gentlely calling me to the sorry state of my marriage I've been in for almost 47 years. I haven't been a happy camper, or happily in love, or excited about my mate for a very long time. But I decided to humbly ask God to fix things between my husband and me not very long ago. I just picked this book to read since I enjoy Christian Fiction, and Rekindled sounded like an interesting title written by one of my recent new authors, Tamera Alexander. It was as if God was showing me there can be something rekindled in an old thing. He can make it brand new. But where to begin?I watched at how our marriage could possibly rehappen. What I learned is that God changed both of the people's spiritual eyes in this love story. I watched all the beliefs and doubts this two went through. I watched death happen, and then new life get blown into the dry bones. I learned how important God's Word became to each individual, and how they prayed the Scriptures.
This story was extremely well written and edited. It had a very good basic foundation and the build up seemed so real--two steps forward and one step back. It is a very clean book and could be read by older teens on it. Part of the story is about a brothel and things if that nature, but it isn't the focus. A necessary part of the big picture though.

Kathryn had left a life of ease to marry Larson Jennings, because he took her breath away from the very beginning. Yet, the marriage hadn’t turned out as she had hoped. It wasn’t the fact that they struggled on the ranch, because Larson worked hard and did his best, but he always held back a part of himself. A tragedy pulls them apart and changes Larson, so that Kathryn doesn’t even recognize him. Will he be given the second chance he so desperately wants, or has Kathryn’s choices sealed him out of her life forever?
This is one of the best novels I’ve read in a long time, and the fact that there was some things that I really didn’t like attests to the strength of the book, since I still have no qualms in rating it a five. The first chapter was unnecessary, and made the following twelve chapters read like backstory, when I was impatient to get on and see what happened after chapter one. Then chapter thirteen repeats chapter one in more detail. If I had it to do over, I would have skipped chapter one and read from chapter two on. This would have made the novel much stronger. That being said, this is still a magnificent read--one of those stories where the characters stick with you long after the last page closes. Kathryn and Larson put each other through so much, because of the new circumstances in which they find themselves, but they change and grow and become better people through it all. This makes the ending even more satisfying. My hat’s off to Tamara Alexander.
This book was a very very good read! It is a couple very much in love. Their love suffers because they are not able to conceive the children they despertly want. The Husband leaves home on Christmas morning early, leaving a note stating he'll be back at the end of the week. Things happen to him on his journey and he doesn't return home for 8 months. She got evicted from their ranch for non-payment, had to live a very hard life in a town that she didn't know anyone. In the mean time, the husband is rescued by a Christian man and for 7 long months, the man and his wife take care of this stranger (the husband). They feed and take care of his burned flesh and the husband finds Christ through the actions and daily lives of this other man and his wife. This husband does heal somewhat, travels back to find his wife. Now you have to read this awesome book, It is a rare
love story, one you won't want to put down! Larson and Kathryn are the main couple, read their story to find out how they find their way back to each other. I look forward to reading the next book in the FOUNTAIN CREEK CHRONICLES.
First off, I want to say I am reviewing this novel long, long after I read it. So, while I recall the general story, I don't recall details. But I have read a more recent Tamara Alexander and wanted to go back to this one, which I Enjoyed also. I have now read 3 of her novels, all Westerns, and all, as I recall, set in the late 1800's. None of them were profound, all were relatively simplistic, but I have gained a level of respect for her writing simply because she conveys basic scriptural truth and life lessons sweetly and clearly. I hope other reviewers touched the lessons and plotline more clearly. All I remember were the lessons of marital faithfulness, honor and forgiveness, both for self and others that were conveyed. I think I Enjoyed the characters in Rekindled better than the other 2 novels, especially the outward scarring and inward transformation of the main male protagonist as well as the patient wait of the main woman. All in all, most especially after reading recent vapid, brainless Christian romances with little to commend them (by other authors), I am coming to enjoy and respect Mrs. Alexander's novels more. As with a couple other authors, I think they (including Mrs. Alexander) could start to deepen their characters' lives and plotlines on occasion, without compromising their desire to remain simple and sweet. I highly recommend they read W. Dale Kramer' s novel "Levi' s Will" which, while not perfect, certainly is deeper than most and yet has many indelibly sweet moments as well as many sad but realistic moments of human failings.
As noted in the title, all of her works are certainly clean and definitely Christian.
